Chess

Find your focus and everything else will fall into place. Develop the skills to shift your focus and maintain it. Then, and only then will you eliminate the distractions that surround you every day.

We will use the game of Chess to teach you how to do this.

Your instructor has a solid knowledge of the game and the ability to bring humour to the learning experience.

Why Chess?

Chess is a fascinating and complex game. It offers the chance to see how well you can use your mind. The positions are endless and the strategy and tactics are a never-ending maze of intrigue!

By taking on the game, you will learn to zone in on a single idea, but also be able to pull back to see the bigger picture.

You will learn to stay calm under pressure with the use of a time-clock and you will have to manage your time carefully - an important part of the game.

Introductory program - 90 minutes

The introductory program is 90 minutes. In this time the group is given the basic rules of Chess and broken into teams to play. Games are played using a clock so there is some pressure to think and there is a result.

Participants play in teams of 2, 3 or 4, ensuring that there is a teamwork element to the fun and friendly competition. A short debrief at the end of each game will help to improve performance and critical thinking in the next round.

Advanced program - 3 hours

The more advanced program goes a little deeper into the strategic and tactical aspect of Chess. It is still able to be taken on by beginners as the longer time frame allows for more learning.

The program still works as a team format, but with the addition of time there is also the opportunity to play some solo games. Once again, the clock is used and there are some other games as well to spice it up!

β€œThe Chess program was original, engaging and terrific fun. The relaxed settings combined perfectly with the team challenges presented throughout the session. Highly recommended!”
