Ian Welsh

Formally educated in the mechanical engineering field and working within automotive OE/aftermarket component manufacturing plants has meant that I have never been far away from cars, the faster the better.

A trip to Mallala race circuit in 1970 where the sight and sound of Norm Beechey’s yellow Monaro has had me infatuated with circuit racing since that time.  I have been a car club member and competitor, race circuit official and spectator.  This infatuation has taken me to most circuits around Australia.

Photography has also been my passion. With the marriage of fast cars and film, the combination has provided me much enjoyment as well as the opportunity to meet many inspiring people.  Now, with digital photography the fun and interest in technology just gets better.  The quality of images from the current equipment is just brilliant.

While the excitement of F1, Indy Cars and V8 Supercars remains, I very much enjoy the lower levels of the sport where people are involved because of their passion for fast cars and their competitive nature.  Club events, sprints, hillclimbs, historics, and any other of the many speed events are always enjoyable to attend and hopefully capture some great images of the competitors at their best.
